Tyler is a native of Sumter, SC and a graduate of Furman University (BME), where he regularly participated in concert and marching ensembles, jazz ensembles, and percussion ensemble. While at Furman, he was one of six students chosen to participate in a semester-long conducting seminar with Maestro Edvard Tchivzhel of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and he was selected to perform in the 2018 Fall Honors Recital. His professional marching experience includes Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps (2016, 2017) and Civitas Independent (2015, 2016 PIO Finalist, 2018 PIO Finalist). He has taught the percussion section of the Rebel Regiment since 2017 and is excited for his seventh season with them! In his fifth year working in Spartanburg District 5, having served as an assistant band director and percussion director, Tyler currently teaches music at Abner Creek Academy and Reidville Elementary School. In his free time, Tyler can be found watching Florida sports, checking out the latest Apple rumors, clanking putts on a disc golf course near you, or spending time with his wife, Laura Lynn, and their two crazy cats, Miko and Sebastian.
