Announcing 2020 CSJA Virtual National Championship

 Second Place Champions

James F. Byrnes Rebel Regiment

Our very own James F. Byrnes Rebel Regiment placed 2ND out of ALL bands in the virtual national championships! They were only 3 tenths of a point behind first place Castle HS Band (Who has been a consistent national top-12 finalist) What is even more impressive is that we had over 20 students out in the video that we sent in for this event. We had some injuries and several out for quarantine. The other remarkable aspect is that we had less than half of our normal practice time for the season due to covid restrictions. We are so proud of these students for accomplishing all they have against the odds. We sent the recording of our performance at Boiling Springs since the videos were due by Oct 30th .

Congratulations to our students on all of their dedication. They worked extremely hard in spite of all the challenges due to Covid-19. We didn’t have one single incident of anyone getting Covid at band. There were many quarantines due to close contact in other classes. We didn’t have one single incident of quarantine due to close contact at band. Our students did an amazing job following the protocol and that enabled us to be one of only a few in the southeast to even compete this year.
The Rebel Regiment was named Grand Champions at the Lake Hartwell Tournament of Bands on October 16 th. Here is a video of that performance:
We concluded the season by hosting our own event. We had 14 bands perform at the Carolina Festival of Bands. This event was scheduled to give bands an end of the season experience. For many schools, this was the only performance they had all season due to Covid. Rather than traditional awards, we gave out ratings and fun superlatives highlighting each bands’ strong points. We had two awards ceremonies in order to stay within capacity limits. The event concluded with our Rebel Regiment performing for the final time of the season. Here is a link to their exhibition performance:
We are very thankful for all of the support from school administration, teachers, band boosters and the community. We are especially thankful to past members of the Rebel Regiment. Without the strong tradition of this band program, we would not have been able to survive the challenges faced this year.
Congratulations to all Rebel Regiment members past and present!
