She is a 2007 graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received her Bachelor of Music Education and Horn Performance. She also received a Masters of Education in School Administration and Supervision from Converse College in 2013.
Prior to her arrival at D. R. Hill in 2008, Mrs. Cotter served as the Director of Bands at Dutch Fork Middle School in Lexington, SC for the 2007-2008 school year. In 2012, Mrs. Cotter was named Teacher of the Year at D. R. Hill Middle School. She is also listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
Bands under Mrs. Cotter’s baton have consistently received Superior ratings at state and regional competitions, and have received the SCBDA’s Outstanding Performance Award under her tenure. Mrs. Cotter’s symphonic bands have received Superior ratings at the South Carolina Concert Festival every year since 2008. Mrs. Cotter is active as an adjudicator and clinician for concert and marching events throughout South Carolina.
Mrs. Cotter maintains professional affiliations with the National Band Association, National Association for Music Educators, and SCMEA. She currently resides in Greer, SC with her husband, Thomas, their two children, Henry and Clara, and their cat, Abigail.
