The band program at James F. Byrnes High School has long been a source of pride for the community and an ambassador for District Five Schools of Spartanburg County. The band programs has also received numerous awards and accolades for its achievement over the years, including the prestigious Sudler Shield for marching band excellence.
The school has grown from just 800 students in 1978 to well over 2000 at the present. During this same time, the band program has grown at the high school and throughout District 5.
We have over 350 students enrolled in various bands and ensembles. Students do not have to be members of the marching band in order to participate in our program. We have numerous students who participate in athletics, cheerleading, and other activities in addition to band.
Our band program prides itself on our family atmosphere and ability to get any audience to their feet. Our goal is to always perform with as much intensity as possible no matter what the event.
Our program consists of many ensembles to serve the diverse needs of our students. Ensembles include:
No matter what instrument or talent level, we have a place for each student to participate. Our staff provides top notch instruction in each area of the program.
We also are very fortunate to have some of the finest facilities in the southeast. District Five’s commitment to fine arts is evident in the Fine Arts Center. Constructed in 2010, the District Five Fine Arts Center has won awards for engineering and design.
