Winston-Salem Bands of America, Rebel Regiment Class 4A Regional Champions!

The James F. Byrnes Rebel Regiment started their Bands of America Regional Championship adventure on Friday night, October 14, 2016. After attending the Byrnes v. Nation Ford football game at Nixon field in Duncan, SC, the band packed up their instruments, equipment, and overnight bags and headed out on the 2 1/2 hour road trip. It was a short night for the band with an early morning performance time for Semi-Finals at Wake Forest University on Saturday morning.

Music for All’s Bands of America (BOA) marching band championships are the premier events for marching bands from all around the nation. BOA’s marching band shows offer positively life-changing experiences for the students, teachers and parents of the bands who participate, as well as fans and spectators.”

The regional championship was hosted at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. There were 28 bands performing at the Semifinal competition representing a total of 7 states in the Southeast.

The Rebel Regiment performed their show “Dark Horse” during the Prelim portion of the competition.

“Dark Horse” Features Music from: “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, The Dark Knight Soundtrack, The Da Vinci Code Soundtrack and Mozart Requiem.

After the Rebel Regiment’s preliminary performance the band members were able to spend some time in the stands during the afternoon to watch some of the other competing bands. The preliminary awards ceremony began at 5:00pm and the Rebel Regiment drum majors lined up on the field with drum majors and band captains from all other 28 competing bands.

The Rebel Regiment was awarded “Outstanding Music Performance”, “Outstanding Visual Performance” and 1st place in class 4 AAAA competition. The Rebel Regiment was also selected as one of the 10 finalist for the BOA Regional Championship.

Upon conclusion of the preliminary awards, the Rebel Regiment began the process of warming up and preparing for their oustanding finals performance at 9:30pm. Finalist bands included: Bassett HS, VA, River Bluff HS, SC Dobyns-Bennett HS, TN, James F. Byrnes HS, SC, Panther Creek HS, NC, Fort Mill HS, SC, Nation Ford HS, SC, , Cary Senior HS, NC, Cape Fear HS, NC, Boiling Springs HS, SC.

 

Finals awards began at 10:30pm and all 10 finalist bands lined up on the field behind their drum majors and band captions for awards. The Wake Forest university stadium was full of fans, spectators and parents eager for the awards ceremony. The James F. Byrnes band marched onto the field to the cadence of Dobyns-Bennett High School Drumline, the 2015 reigning champions of the Winston-Salem Bands of America Regional event.  The Rebel Regiment was proudly carrying the United States of America flag and the state of South Carolina Flag.

The Rebel Regiment received the 2nd place finalist award; as of October 11, 2016 the James F. Byrnes marching band is ranked in the top 40 marching bands in the nation.
