Band News – Aug. 18

Hello everyone,

We have another exciting week ahead of us! We will be finishing part 1 for both the competitive and football bands and preparing for our clinic days with Jim Moore next week. We also have our first football game at Chapman. Exciting times!

First of all, thanks to everyone for a successful Moneydolly fundraiser! I appreciate the work Luke and Amanda Dobson, Mrs. Watson, and the entire booster club did to set us up for success! We will have more fundraising opportunities coming soon and I ask for your help to make sure each is as successful as this one in meeting our goals. Even having worked here before, it still surprises me sometimes just how much money it takes to do all the things we do. I can tell you I am impressed by how much the school district, high school administration, booster club, and band staff are dedicated to making sure we have everything our students could possibly need. Fundraisers like this are a vital part of the whole picture. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Competitive band rehearsals will follow a regular schedule this week for guard and percussion sectionals on Monday and competitive band rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday until 5:45.

Competition Percussion does have rehearsal on Monday (tomorrow) from 4-5:30pm. The goal will be to detail and rep parts 1 and 2 musically.

Football Drumline “does not” have rehearsal on Wednesday (8/23). Mr. Sanders will periodically communicate with the 8th graders throughout the week regarding musical progress and memorization.

Football band will follow a slightly altered schedule this week. The athletic department and school administration has asked us to fit everyone into the band stands this year. While this will be a very tight space, we hope we can get this done. To make sure we can make this happen, we are going to assign seats after rehearsal on Wednesday in the football stadium. It is important that the band gets their full Wednesday rehearsal time! We have to finish learning the opener! This process should only take 10 minutes as long as students are attentive and helpful. We will move quickly into the band stands, assign seats in sections, and then dismiss. It is our hope that by setting our seats this week we can communicate with the administration whether or not this plan will work. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility this week so that next week’s home game can run smoothly!

We do have our first away game this week at Chapman. We will be taking a pep band this week. Signup sheets will be posted on Monday. For winds, there will be a signup sheet for leadership and a seperate sign up sheet for underclassmen. These sheets will also be divided by section to ensure we get a proper instrumentation. I know Mr. Sanders and the percussion section have already done assignments. Should we have extra seats, we may be able to take some color guard students, but those seats will only be made available later in the week. We want to make sure even as a small group we sound good, so student section leaders need to make sure all parts are represented! Be on the lookout for a document with football procedures early this week. The school administration, staff, and students have expressed to me how much we can improve our football game experience for everyone so please help us institute some new procedures. I look forward to seeing our full ensemble next Friday on Nixon field!

Speaking of next week, please remember and mark on your calendars our modified schedule next week as we welcome Jim Moore to town. All competitive members will rehearse until 7:00PM Monday and Tuesday!

Let’s have a great week!
