Band News – Aug. 11

Hello everyone,

It is an exciting time as we start school and begin our weekly marching band schedule! Our first real performances will be here before long and I can’t wait to see the progress we make over the coming weeks.
For those of you visiting the high school this week, please accept my apologies for my absence from meet the teacher day and other events. I have had a thrilling week at Boston University for my doctoral residency. This was planned many years ago and unfortunately fell on this important week. As I have mentioned many times, I appreciate the staff’s work this week to make sure we are continuing on a path to success. I am looking forward to being home, spending time with my family, and starting classes and rehearsals this coming week!
This coming week is not a full week – we aren’t rehearsing every day and we don’t have a game – but it is still a busy one. I know the first priority is for students to get into their respective schools, establish routines, and get a great academic year started – but we also need to make sure we are at rehearsals prepared and ready to learn. Students need to establish healthy eating habits and make sure they are drinking water all day. Many of our rehearsals from here on will be outside during hot parts of the day. We want every student feeling their best and participating in every rep!
For students not on the main campus, please make sure you know your plan to get to BHS! Mr. Mabrey has sent out detailed information for the 9th graders. Please read this information carefully! FCMS and DRH have been notified of students riding the daily activity bus (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday). Wednesday will be our football band day and so that process will be slightly different. I will send additional information on that as soon as it comes available (hopefully Monday). Please check with Ms. Crutchlow and Mr. Cotter if you have any issues at school.
Looking ahead, we are excited to have our program coordinator and lead choreographer, Jim Moore, visiting with us for a few days later this month. Please mark Monday, August 28th, and Tuesday, August 29th, as important after school rehearsals for the competition band (the winds add Monday to normal schedule). Also we will extend these rehearsals until 7PM. Please mark your calendars for these important rehearsals!
Another look ahead….
September 16 – Save the Date for MEDIA DAY!

We will be taking individual pictures for each grade level this day.  This will be a drop in process and shouldn’t take long for each individual.  Due to scheduling we may not be able to have a makeup day so PLEASE make every arrangement to be there on September 16!
Media Day is also our ANNUAL Fall CAR WASH DAY!  Be sure to help us raise all the cash at our annual fall car wash! Below are the times for Media Day and the Car Wash –
Sophomores and Seniors: car wash from 10:00-12:00 and Media Day from 12:30-2:00.
Freshman and Juniors: Media Day from 8:30 to -11:30 and car washes from 12:00-2:00.
