We finally have a new color guard director. He comes to us with a wealth of experience in marching band and winterguard. he was highly recommended by some top color guard legends including Joseph Heininger https://yea.org/57-
biography/988-joe-heininger- bioand many other top directors in WGI and BOA.
We will be scheduling a time soon where students can meet him and learn more information. Let’s all make Mr. Edens feel welcome and make him glad that he chose James F. Byrnes High School! He can do some amazing things for our guard program and that starts with our support.
Here is his bio highlighting his experience and accomplishments:
DOUGLAS EDENS- COLOR GUARD DIRECTOR
Douglas Edens is entering his 14th year of teaching colorguard. His teaching career began at Pulaski County High School in Pulaski, Virginia, where he taught from 2004-2009. Mr. Edens was instrumental in growing the PCHS guard program from 9 students to over 20 within his first year as an instructor. He then took over the color guard at Brunswick High School in Brunswick, Ohio, from 2009-2016 where his guard won 3 BOA regionals, a WGI regional, and placed 2nd and 3rd place in the Ohio Indoor Performing Arts State Championship. Along with these accomplishments, Mr. Edens started the college Color Guard and Winter Guard programs at Notre Dame College located in South Euclid, Ohio. Upon moving to Tennessee, he became the Color Guard Director for Siegel High School. Under his instruction, the guard program doubled in size to 60 members and he was able to start a successful Winter Guard program, consisting of both Junior Varsity and Varsity groups. He is also a program coordinator and consultant to many programs in the southeast. Along with judging guard for fall and winter guard competitions, he has also been on staff with the Capital Regiment Drum Corps, Phoenix Independent, Northpoint Independent, Rangerettes Independent Winter Guard, and The Mark Winter Guard.
In his youth, Mr. Edens was an active performer, appearing with the Pulaski High School Band, Capital Regiment Drum Corps, DCI Honor Corps, The Study Independent Winter Guard, and the Juxtaposition Independent Winter Guard.
Outside of working with bands, Mr. Edens enjoys spending time with his Siberian husky, Nala, and traveling.
